In school, the gender ratio is 50/50. However, soon after graduation, 35% of women who started in architecture have moved on to other career paths. What events come to pass that redirect the goal of becoming a licensed architect; gender bias, need to work, creating a family?

Melissa Venoy – Melissa has a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and a Master Architecture, both from the University of Cincinnati. Currently, she is CWA Treasurer and is working for Goettsch Partners as a project architect overseeing commercial high rise construction projects in China.
Aphrodite Angelakos is a graduate of University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana with a Bachelor degree in Architecture and a masters in Architecture and Engineering. Currently she is working at matrix Engineering Corporation, where she is conducting the structural permit and peer review of projects to be permitted in the City of Chicago.
Lindsey Schaffer is a graduate of the University of Lincoln in Nebraska with a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture. She is currently working with VOA Associates as a marketing coordinator and is cultivating her contacts at VOA with the ultimate goal of working as a registered architect.
Laura Cripe is Co-founder/Business Development/Permaculturist at Moss Architecture. She has a B.S. degree in Business & Management from National Louis University Chicago and is certified as a permaculturist and urban farmer. Moss Architecture is a full service architecture and design studio in the Chicago neighborhood of Lakeview.
Angela Hurlock is the Executive Director of Claretian Associates which focuses on the redevelopment and revitalization of South Chicago. Ms. Hurlock holds a Masters Degree in Architecture from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
